Something real sweet is happening around Murphy's! We have partnered with our friends at Bee Downtown to start selling honey from our rooftop hives to members at Loading Dock Raleigh. We love getting the opportunity to combine our efforts with Leigh-Kathryn, who was just named a Southerner of the Year, to Do Others Good! 100% of proceeds will go into the support of our very own rooftop hives and for the purchase of new hives. The honey comes straight from our original three apiaries located above us on the rooftop! We now have five apiaries with over 300,000 bees!
What is an Apiary?
An apiary (also known as a bee yard) is a location where beehives of honey bees are kept. Apiaries come in many sizes and can be rural or urban depending on the honey production operation. Apiaries are built to harvest honey, benefit farming, or both. It can be very helpful to the crops that surround it, as it encourages bee populations to remain in the area. In return, the bees will perform pollination activities which fruits and vegetables require.
Going Green With Packaging
We are now using Barefoot Press for our printed materials. Barefoot Press is one of the original green printers, going all the way back to 1987. Our honey jars have handmade paper with pollinator friendly wildflower seed inclusions.
