5 Ways to Enjoy Life Outdoors With Your Kids

Emily Bennett

Spring into the Outdoors Family Style

With spring basically here and summer right around the corner we want to equip you with some awesome outdoor activities that will leave your kids with a greater appreciation for the great outdoors, and more importantly a greater appreciation for YOU.  Here are five ways you can Enjoy Life Outdoors with your kids this spring! And remember, keep your Murphy's handy to keep those pesky bugs from biting!

1. Treat yourself with Ice Cream

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Warmer days mean cold treats! Live near a local ice cream shop? Walk with your kids and give them something to get excited about.  Don't live close? Hop in the car and sit outside, or grab a bike and treat yourself!

2. Go For a Bike Ride

Grab and bike and go with the whole family! Cruise around the neighborhood for fun, or head to a local park so your kids can play!

3.  Camp in Your Backyard

Warm nights should be spent outside! Make it easy on yourself and stay in the comfort of your own backyard, your kids won't know the difference. Pitch the tent and watch your kids' faces light up as day turns to night.

4. Create Your Own Slip N' Slide

Help your kids create their very own slip n' slide and watch them have the time of their lives! All you need is a camping tarp, detergent and working hose.

5. Make Water Balloons

Balloons are great, but water balloons are even better! Cool off with your kids and listen to the sound of them laughing as colorful balloons get tossed.

Love these outdoor activities? You sound like a Family Helper! We've specifically picked products just for you. Keep your kids safe and Enjoy Life Outdoors with Murphy's Naturals products! Click the button below to find the perfect products for your lifestyle!

It's National B Corp Month!

Emily Bennett

B The Change

It's National B Corp Month and if you're familiar with us, you know that being a certified B Corporation is one of the things we're most proud of.  Not sure what we're talking about?  Click here to find out more about B Corps!  Being a certified B Corp means doing good for the people and planet.  It's about taking steps toward stewarding the responsibility that we've been given to leave the earth better than we found it.  Here are four ways we try to accomplish this.

1. We Use Responsible Products

Did you know you can make a difference by the products that you purchase? Why not support brands and products that are Doing Others Good?  At Murphy's, we use fair trade coffee and recycled paper! Find awesome products, from awesome people here!

2. Compost Now

Murphy's is proud to partner with Compost Now! Composting is a great way to reduce waste and do good for the planet. Want to start composting but don't know where to start? Click here to find out more!

3. In-kind Donations to Local Non-profits

At Murphy's, we believe in supporting local and giving back to the community that you're a part of. In 2017, we donated over 200 tubes of Murphy's Naturals Mosquito Sticks and over 200 bottles of Lemon Eucalyptus Spray to local non-profits!

4. Volunteer

One of the best ways to Do Others Good and get involved in your community is through volunteering! At Murphy's, we volunteered for over 170 hours with local non-profits in 2017.

Locally Made: A Place at the Table

Emily Bennett

Where Community Meets Good Food

Here at Murphy's, we call Raleigh, North Carolina home. Ever since we planted our roots here back in 2014, we have strived to celebrate nature and inspire good through quality natural products. Our motto is Doing Others Good. Our Locally Made blog series will feature some of our favorite people and companies here in the Triangle. We want to celebrate other companies in Oak City whose mission is just as good as their product!

Everyone deserves a place at the table; to be able to eat a good meal and experience community in it's truest form, regardless of their means. That''s exactly what the new cafe on 300 W. Hargett St in Downtown Raleigh seeks to accomplish. Locally made, A Place at the Table is Doing Others Good by creating a space where pay-what-you-can is accepted and encouraged. This place is for all people and that's what we love about it. Check out how you can get involved and Do Others Good with our friends A Place at the Table, on their Website, Facebook and Instagram.

Our New Years Resolution

Emily Bennett

It's a New Year, but here at Murphy's our mission stays the same.  We want to celebrate nature & inspire good through quality natural products.  Our goal is to Enjoy Life Outdoors and equip you to do the same!  One of the ways we're seeking to do that in 2018 is to travel more!  Here are three steps to prepare you for your adventures. Warning they're simple, but not easy.

1. Forget The Rules

You know the rules, the unspoken ones that tell you what's normal and what's crazy. We think crazy is good. Different is better. Go where you've always wanted to go.

2. Pick up a Map and Choose Wisely

Pick up a map and figure out your trip!

3. Grab a Friend and Go

Getting a friend to join you will make the adventure more memorable, and it will keep you accountable to follow through with it. What are you waiting for?

4. Be Sustainable

Bring purpose into your travel by traveling the right way! Sustainably. Book your stay at an incredible Ecolodge and Enjoy Life Outdoors!

5. Volunteer

Whether you're traveling abroad or in the states, make your trip matter by serving and Doing Others Good. There are countless opportunities to get involved, give back, and serve with causes that you care about!

6. Pack light, but don't forget your Murphy's Naturals

Last but not least, don't forget to pack your Murphy's Leo Spray! Get ready for an awesome adventure and go Enjoy Life Outdoors!

Bunker Brews at Loading Dock Raleigh

Business Networking & Brews Veteran Style

Join Bunker Labs RDU at the Loading Dock Raleigh, free of charge, on Tuesday, December 12th from 5:30-7pm.  Bunker Brews Raleigh begins at 5:30 pm at the Loading Dock, a perfect time to wind down after a long day.  Hear from Navy veteran Philip Freeman, founder of Murphy's Naturals and Loading Dock Raleigh, on how to remove barriers from starting businesses and the importance of collaboration.

After the program, we'll spill over in Lynnwood Brewing Concern (next door) as they will be supporting Bunker Labs in its Drink For a Cause Event (a portion of drink sales will be donated to Bunker Labs RDU... have fun and take Uber if needed).

What is Bunker Brews?

A monthly meet-up or happy hour where the Bunker Labs community — veterans, military spouses, and civilians alike can network with subject matter experts, investors, thought leaders, and more — creating a robust environment for growth and development.

What is Bunker Labs RDU?

Bunker Labs—a national non-profit—was created by military veterans for veterans to start and grow businesses. 25% of transitioning service members want to start a business and they need places inside their community where they can connect with the people, resources, and support they need to start and grow their businesses. Bunker Labs’ network is designed to fill that space.

A Sweet Collaboration With Bee Downtown

Emily Bennett

Sweet Collaboration

Something real sweet is happening around Murphy's!  We have partnered with our friends at Bee Downtown to start selling honey from our rooftop hives to members at Loading Dock Raleigh.  We love getting the opportunity to combine our efforts with Leigh-Kathryn, who was just named a Southerner of the Year, to Do Others Good!  100% of proceeds will go into the support of our very own rooftop hives and for the purchase of new hives.  The honey comes straight from our original three apiaries located above us on the rooftop! We now have five apiaries with over 300,000 bees!

What is an Apiary?

An apiary (also known as a bee yard) is a location where beehives of honey bees are kept.  Apiaries come in many sizes and can be rural or urban depending on the honey production operation.  Apiaries are built to harvest honey, benefit farming, or both.  It can be very helpful to the crops that surround it, as it encourages bee populations to remain in the area.  In return, the bees will perform pollination activities which fruits and vegetables require.

Going Green With Packaging

We are now using Barefoot Press for our printed materials. Barefoot Press is one of the original green printers, going all the way back to 1987.  Our honey jars have handmade paper with pollinator friendly wildflower seed inclusions.

Find out more about our friends Bee Downtown and be part of the buzz at Dock 1053!
